FAQ

Your questions answered.

What would you like to know?

Do I need a prescription from a doctor to be seen for an Physical Therapy evaluation?

A: You will NOT need a prescription to be evaluated. However, you will require a prescription by a) the 30th day since the initial evaluation OR b) your 10th treatment session, whichever comes first

How long are treatment sessions?

A: Evaluations and follow-up sessions last 60 minutes, as it includes a comprehensive assessment and history of present injury, along with some initial hands-on treatment. Subsequent treatment sessions always begin with a quick re-evaluation, immediately followed by hands-on treatment.

What should I wear to my evaluation and follow up sessions?

A: The easier it is to access the affected area, the better we can care for you and get to the root of what may be causing your current condition. Wear loose, comfortable clothing that allows the therapist access to the area(s) of your current complaints.

Is there anything else I should bring to my first visit?

A: Bring your insurance information, form of payment including Flex Savings or Health Saving Account card, and copies of any medical tests, prescriptions or relevant documentation to your current condition.

When should I arrive?

A: Arrive at least 15 minutes early for your initial evaluation to complete intake paperwork, if you did not have a chance to complete it prior to your arrival.

What can I expect in the initial evaluation?

A: A thorough history of your current condition, medical history, and a deeper look into your current complaint(s) will be performed. A comprehensive physical examination with treatment and home exercise prescription beginning on the first visit will follow. The evaluation and treatment will last approximately 1 hour, allowing for transition time between patients.

What type of diagnosis and injuries do you treat?

A: Here’s a list of some of the most common neurological and orthopedic conditions we treat.

How does the initial evaluation differ from the follow up sessions?

A: Following your initial evaluation, treatment sessions always begin with a quick re-evaluation, immediately followed by hands-on treatment provided by a licensed Physical Therapist. All sessions will last 1 hour.

When should I expect to see or feel results?

A: You can expect to experience results within 1-3 visits. Your recovery will be dependent on whether you are rehabilitating an acute or chronic injury, modifying a behavior that may be the source of dysfunction or chronic pain, or coming in for an everyday body mechanics assessment and training for injury prevention. Optimal functional results are achieved through collaboration with your Physical Therapist and based on mutually established goals.

How long should I expect the results to last?

A: Research has shown that it can take up to 8 weeks become efficient in learning a behavioral pattern. As part of our approach, we advocate 6-month check-ins in a concerted effort to sustain the optimal performance achieved from your customized treatment programs. Stress, environment changes and other external factors can derail good habits and re-establish movement patterns, and oftentimes 1 visit over a 6 month period can prevent you from falling back into old, damaging patterns. This is similar to going to a dentist for a bi-annual cleaning, equipped with the logic that it’s much easier to endure a teeth cleaning than a root canal.

Do you accept insurance?

A:  Yes, we are in-network with Aetna and Medicare. For all others, while we expect payment at the time of service, many patients are able to obtain reimbursement through their out-of-network benefits. On an average, patients receive between 70-80% reimbursement once their deductibles have been met. We are happy to provide you with a superbill for this purpose. As a courtesy, if requested, we will electronically file all claims and take care of pre-authorization. This does NOT guarantee that you will be reimbursed. We recommend that you call us at 347-676-0819 or email us at brandolakes.dpt@gmail.com

How much time do I have to use the funds in my Flex Spending account?

A:  If you do not use all of the money you’ve put into your FSA for the year, you will lose the money  that is remaining in your account when the year ends. Most FSA plans end on December 31st, but your plan may offer a grace period until March. Please check with with your employer or insurance provider to find out the terms for your plan.
